Servant The Chronicles of Servitude Volume 1 J S Bailey Books

Bobby Roland knows things he shouldn’t… Plagued with premonitions of disaster, he fights to save others’ lives. What Bobby doesn’t foresee is that rescuing a stranger from death will place him in the line of fire. And so begins the novel Servant, the first installment of J.S. Bailey’s Chronicles of Servitude series. Servant is a fast-paced story with colorful characters that the reader can connect with. Bobby Roland is a socially awkward twenty year-old that is trying to find his way. Excluding his obsession with Sprite and the ability to foretell imminent danger, I found it quite easy to identify with Bobby. I see myself in him, wanting to belong but not being able to find somewhere to completely settle down, the desire to do something great but feeling too insignificant. Taking the events of the end of the novel into account, it seems that Bobby has a lot to learn and face in the next book. The book takes place in a little bit more than a day, which means that there is very little time for the characters to do something unimportant. I was seriously surprised at how quickly I was reading. Bailey keeps the suspense and the creepiness looming of the story looming over the reader, while also providing some lighter moments. Much like Frank Peretti, Ted Dekker, and Dean Koontz, the spiritual plays a part in this story. There are demons, exorcisms, and mysterious characters aplenty. These don’t play a huge part in Servant, and there are questions that I have that have not been answered, but I am sure Bailey will expand on these much more in the sequels. I hope she doesn’t give Bobby too hard of a time. If you are a fan of stories that focus on the aspects of spiritual warfare from a Christian perspective, J.S. Bailey’s Servant is definitely worth the read. Servant‘s sequel, Sacrifice, will be released this fall.

Servant The Chronicles of Servitude Volume 1 J S Bailey Books Reviews

This is an exciting supernatural story.
This is a good story, and I'm glad I had the second one ready to read right after this one. I can't wait for the third installment.
Loved this! A couple of friends recommended that I read this...so I paused reading another book to take up this one. Good choice. I was so intrigued with the characters, I couldn't wait to find out what happened next.
An engaging read in the vein of Peretti’s Prophet and This Present Darkness, Servant mixes supernatural gifts and callings with spiritual warfare on a sinister and personal level that leaves the characters in a fight for their lives - and the lives of those they care about. The plot moves at a good clip with many satisfying twists that keep you turning the page to find out what happens next. I've already bought the next one and look forward to the third coming out soon.
This book blew me away. Once it starts it doesn't let up. I stayed up until 4 am to finish it because i just couldn't put it down, I had to know how it was all going to turn out. Bailey is an excellent story teller. It's the first time in a long time I've come across a book in this genre that grabbed me the way this one did or that was written as well as this on is. I can't wait to read the next one. I recommend this to anyone who loves to read, it's a great book you won't regret opening.
One of the reasons I love my is that is allows me to find all sorts of authors I never would have encountered otherwise. Among these is JS Bailey, a terrific American writer currently working on her Chronicles of Servitude trilogy.

Servant is the first of the three (though there is a prologue short story which I recommend you read first) and introduces the reader to the somewhat terrifying world Bailey creates.

Bobby Roland is Bailey's protagonist, a young man who doesn't fit in. Bobby is blessed/cursed with a power. He sometimes gets flashes of future events. While these flashes are often helpful and allow him to stop terrible events from happening, they are just as likely to lead to disaster.

The burden and guilt of this strange power he doesn't understand weighs heavily on Bobby. He is a character full of self-doubt, living on the edge of paranoia. It is this self-doubt, this questioning Bobby does of everyone he meets and everything that happens which makes him such a complex and fascinating protagonist and gives the novel its weight.

When Bobby encounters a group of people fighting against the forces of evil, he has to make a choice. Ignore his power and stay out of the struggle, or join with these people, who he does not completely trust, to battle the ultimate evil.

It's a terrific, involving, fast-paced read. It's also a completely original creation, not quite like anything else you're likely to read.
I’ve read a couple of J.S. Bailey’s works and can honestly say that, while I certainly liked them, I loved this one! Her writing just keeps getting better.

Bobby Roland is great; he’s like a Moses character to me – flawed and feeling unworthy, but called by God to great things. He’s unsure, but open enough to learn and grow and let God lead him.

And the plot was intense – giving just enough to make me think I knew what was happening then throwing up another wall in the maze, drawing me further in, desperate to know the answers.

Riveting. Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of Servant – it is a fabulous read! And I would suggest you read the short prequel, Solitude, which is available on . It’s a great introduction to Bobby and made Servant that much better, because I had that background on Bobby before I even started the “real” story. And, seriously, J.S. totally left me hanging at the end, so now I have to read Sacrifice!
